About Sudoblark

Manchester-based engineering consultancy. First-principles thinking. Documentation-first delivery.

What I Do

Sudoblark delivers deeply technical infrastructure, backend systems, and data platforms for enterprise engineering teams. First-principles thinking applied to AWS, Terraform, CI/CD, Kubernetes, and serverless architectures—solving hard problems without hand-waving or buzzwords.

Every engagement delivers:

  • First-principles engineering: Breaking problems down to fundamentals—using algorithms and data structures to define Terraform, not manual ClickOps translated to HCL
  • Documentation-first delivery: Your team inherits understanding, not just code. Detailed technical documentation explaining the "why" behind every decision
  • Production-grade solutions: Infrastructure as software with proper abstractions, testing, and maintainability. Solutions that last years, not months
  • Full-stack technical depth: From Lambda runtimes to networking fundamentals, Kubernetes to GitHub Actions, DynamoDB to data lakes

How I work

Most consulting engagements ship the minimum and move on. I've seen the pattern: the system gets binned or rewritten within a year because no-one who inherits it understands why it works. Everything I do is designed to prevent that.

  • Business problem first, architecture second: I decompose business needs into use cases, functional and non-functional requirements, before any architecture is designed. Everything built traces back to a reason.
  • The full chain, no hand-offs: BA, architecture, systems engineering, implementation, documentation, governance, handover. One person who holds full context from the business decision to the deployed system — no signal loss through layers of specialisation.
  • Infrastructure as software: Algorithms and data structures applied to Terraform. Infrastructure designed with proper abstractions, not scripts translated from ClickOps. Computer science principles across the whole stack.
  • Communication at every altitude: Equally at home presenting at technical conferences, working alongside engineering teams, and pitching to boards. The ability to translate between business and engineering — in both directions — is what makes the work actually land.
  • Handover is the deliverable: Your team inherits complete understanding of every decision — the requirement it serves, the trade-offs considered, the reasoning behind the implementation. Not just code.

Track Record

I founded Sudoblark in 2023, with over 12 years delivering infrastructure, backend systems, and CI/CD automation across government, motorsport, industrial technology, and commercial sectors.

Team

Currently a solo operation—Benjamin Clark—operating out of Manchester. This keeps overhead low, communication direct, and means you're always working with someone who understands the entire stack from first principles.

When engagements require additional capacity, I bring in trusted specialists from my network across infrastructure, backend, and data domains.
