Hi, I'm Ben.

I've been building (and un-breaking) things professionally since 2013. From international motorsport and UK government departments to consumer charities, industrial software, and supply-chain startups.

I started back when infrastructure was something you could physically kick. I caused my first outage as an apprentice, in 2013, via a combination of an access switch, gravity, and the company's one and only SQL server. Since then, the Industry has reinvented itself several times over, and I've adapted alongside it. I started out writing server-side C# for deployment to roughly 10,000 on-prem servers across 100 different Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs). That gave way to Cloud, Serverless and Python. Manual checklists and handcrafted deployments adapted towards infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD - there is a difference) at an Enterprise scale. Along the way I've had some interesting temporary detours into embedded and real-time systems. These days, it's mainly production-grade Agentic AI.

The core of the job has, roughly, stayed the same; to be a force-multiplier for others. I can operate across the entire Software Development stack, end-to-end, without handing it off to another team.

In 2019 I realised that, with the trajectory of my Career, I was happily ticking along but had known unknowns and unknown unknowns in terms of the technical landscape. Not things I strictly needed, but things I wanted to learn to be the very best Engineer I could. So, for 6 years of my life, I basically gave up every evening and weekend I had to pursue a part-time Computing and IT (Software Engineering) Degree with the Open University. I achieved a First-Class Honours, and built my own AI chatbot for my dissertation.
